Birth Class Testimonials

Jackie introduces our Birth Specialists videos of good birth experiences...

Meg had her mother Elaine as her birth partner. They had an amazing experience of childbirth, baby Dylan is a very happy and contented baby. What an inspiration!

Carl and I attended your course in august/september and I just wanted to let you know how helpful it was. Oskar was born on 28th September, 3 weeks early to our surprise. I found the breathing exercises really helpful in what was a very rapid labour - I was only in hospital about 2 hours before Oskar was born. I also used the CD in the labour room. Even though I was rather taken aback at going into labour 3 weeks early, your course gave me a feeling of "being prepared" which made me alot less anxious.

Gillian and David tell you why they came on the Birth Secrets HypnoBirthing Preparation Course, what they got out of it and how they now feel about the day of their baby's arrival...

Richard, Emma and Lauren
Just wanted to let you know that Lauren Joy arrived at 03:59 on Tuesday 20th January weighing 6lb 1oz.  She was 3 weeks early but everything went wonderfully well.  She was born at home as planned after a 6 hour labour using just TENS and the birth pool.  We're all now doing great and adjusting to life as a family.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your help and advice.  You have been a real inspiration and without your coaching Lauren's birth wouldn't have been the amazing positive experience it was.  Thank you so much.

Brian, Lisa and baby Edward tell you how the birth of Edward was a wonderful experience. Lisa had a dream one night about having a pain free birth, Brian was sceptical but wanted to support her...

Sam, Simon and Joseph
Joe was a littlie at 6lb 3.5oz and has had quite a drop in weight, so we're on a big feeding regime for him (means we get lots of cuddle time!).

Would be lovely to catch up in a couple of weeks when he's back up to fighting weight.  We're still happy to do the video testimony.  Whilst his birth got off to a slow start - my waters breaking and then no contractions, I had to be induced.  Once things got going, it was textbook 6hrs with only tens and gas and air (and no stitches).  Whilst it was extemely tension-full (I was vomiting with the pain!) ultimately I had to tell the midwife that he'd been born, because I clearly wasn't making enough fuss for her to believe me that he was close. She's told me next time should be at home with birthing pool, as I'd 'breathed' the baby out and clearly didn't need her. This I'd attriubute to what we learnt with you

Tanya, Neil and Devon Anne
Thank you so much for teaching me the birthing techniques that helped quide me through my first birthing experience. I found the breathing techniques helped me cope through the surges and took me through the 13 hours that i was birthing! I am so glad I made the decision to choose a water birth at home. The midwives were so calm and relaxed and listened to what we wanted and I felt I could take my time. The result was a beautiful calm baby girl , who is a delight to us all. Thankyou so much.

Colin, Alison and baby Jimmy share their birth story with you after they attended the Birth Secrets Classes...

Anna, Dean and Mia
The home birth went really well. Lasted about 12 hours in total and I didn't tear. The Birth Secrets preparation was invaluable. It really helped me deal with the contractions and allowed Dean to support me through every stage. I really want to write a birth story for you and will do when I get some time. We are both really glad we made the decision to have her at home. I just can't imagine having done all that in hospital with all its attendant distractions/interventions.

Gema, Dave and Olivia
Just wanted to let you know that we had our beautiful little girl after a fantastic labour!!!
My waters broke at 8pm. I started feeling 'tightenings' about 12 midnight. At 3am, I was 4cm dilated and by 5.12, our precious daughter was born. It all progressed so quickly and smoothly. And I didn't have pain relief apart from some gas and air with my last few surges. I’m convinced that just knowing about the Birth Secrets techniques and having a relaxed attitude towards the birthing before it took place really helped. I had the most fantastic hassle-free labour that progressed very quickly, and it must be down to what we learnt about labour and birth during the course. Olivia is a calm and happy baby who only seems to cry when there's something wrong. She's not a whinger (at the moment anyway - lets hope she stays like this!), and I’m sure that is also down to Birth Secrets. It was definitely a positive experience, I would definitely recommend it to people, that's for sure

Jan Rozycki born Sunday 10th August 2008 at 2:22PM 7lb 15oz. We decided to use The Birth Specialists as i had a planned cesarean with my first son as he was breech and I had no birthing experience. I wanted to maximise my chances of birthing naturally.

We learned how to think positively and relax whilst pregnant with my partners help. I really enjoyed practising the techniques each night and it helped me to sleep. I particularly found it useful to visualise our lovely baby inside, the birth and our new family and remove any fears. I'm sure the opening flower picture helped my body to prepare for birthing, days before it started. We learned so much about the birthing process that we would not have learned on the NHS. We didn't think our baby was coming even when the contractions were three minutes apart as we were so relaxed! We got to the hospital just in time to start birthing our baby. We were relaxed and felt confident and in control the whole time. My partner was brilliant and knew how to help and assist through the whole process thanks to our training. The midwives were really good and really listened to our requests in the birth plan to allow for our special birth.

Our son was born in 6 hours, naturally and calmly just as we wanted. I still use the breathing and relaxing techniques daily to give me energy and keep me calm whilst bringing up two children.

Sue, Rob and Jessica
Jessica Lena Beth was born on the 17th Feb at 15:08 weighing 7lb 11oz. She didn't quite come out the way we'd planned, out of the sunroof .

We went through our 1st stage at home having woken up at 2am to my waters breaking. Once they had broken and I felt I couldn't stay in bed any more (we were both too excited!!!) we went downstairs and put on the music from the birthing affirmations and on each surge, used the breathing techniques we were taught. I can't tell you how effective they were, when I was distracted by someone or came out of "the zone" I really knew about it, so spent the next 6 or so hours in a bit of a trance. "Is she awake?" was a common phrase used by the midwifes and "how do you know when she's getting a surge?" We didn't get a chance to use the scripts because my surges were to close together unfortunately, but I've been told that is possibly because I was so relaxed.
By 9 ish I was fully dilated and we were then ready to get little Peanut out, except she decided she was now going to do a little pirouette on her head and stay where she was. So now she was back to back and stuck. So after trying everything we could at home, we took a ride in an ambulance and continued 2nd stage in hospital. We were put on a drug that brings on the surges stronger and quicker to try and encourage her out but she was still staying put. It wasn't till after the event Jess (midwife) told me most people have an epidural when they have this drug but we just kept using the birthing techniques. After an hour the decision was made to go for the sunroof option and soon after little Jess came into the world.

So all in all, keep on practising girls!! It really really works and I feel privileged to have been able to do it.

Olivia Morris was born on 18th February 2009 at 9.17am, weighing 7lb 1oz. She was born at home, as planned, using our birthing techniques and a birth pool. Everything went so well and we are still awe-struck by the whole thing. Thank you so much

Dan, Lucie and Baby Summer share their miracle birth story with you. Baby Summer was diagnosed at the 20 week scan with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia and needed an operation straight after birth. Lucie and Dan wanted to give Summer the most natural birth possible to ensure her safe entry into the world. They are a wonderful couple with an amazing story to share...

Rhona, Nigel and Holly
Our precious daughter Holly was delivered by the planned C section last Wednesday as the placenta remained in a dodgy position.

Everything went really well, better than expected and we believe that this had a lot to do with the techniques that we learnt on the course.  I suffered none of the usual complications like haemorrhaging which is rare considering the position.  All the medical staff couldn't believe how calm I was throughout the procedure and especially how calm Holly was when she was delivered, she could breathe on her own and only grizzled for a moment.  So far she has been very content and feeding well.

We practised regularly leading up to the day, Nigel relaxed me with the exercises which left me in a very relaxed state for the op.  During the procedure I heard only his voice despite the theatre having a least 8 people around and had a good rapport with the anaesthetist so found her guidance also very calming. Despite being in theatre for almost 2 hours from start to finish the whole thing felt like only half an hour, I dread to think how the experience would have been without learning to release fears etc.  We're confident that if we could of had a natural birth it would have been calm and a wonderful experience for all three of us.

CD Testimonials

Michelle, Essex
The relaxation C.D reminded me that I had to unwind and "switch off".  With two older sons to care for I found once they were tucked up in bed it was the ideal time to put my feet up and listen.  The breathing techniques and the idea of making a memory of that safe place really helped me with the birth of my son.  Although I didn’t have the birth that I wanted I found that the breathing really relaxed me and my special place took my mind off what was going on.

Christine, Loughton
"The relaxation CD was brilliant. My husband and I listened to it every night and both of us benefitted immediately from more restful sleep. Before we got the CD I was waking in the night and struggling to get back to sleep but afterwards I was getting a full night's sleep, even at 36 weeks pregnant"
